Josh’s Fried Chicken

Fried Chicken is the ultimate comfort food in the USA.  It can be paired with just about anything.  Such examples are mashed potatoes, french fries, baked potatoes Au Gratin potatoes,  vegetables, garden salad, caesar salad, and even waffles with syrup!  Although fried chicken is a very popular in the USA, it’s not strictly an American food.  Many countries around the world have fried chicken, but the recipe is different in each country and even here in the USA, many individuals and restaurants each have their own recipe.  This recipe is my own fried chicken recipe!  Is it the best?  Who knows?  I like it, my wife and kids love it!  I think you’ll like it, maybe you’ll love it!

Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Brine chicken for 1/2 hour to 2 hours (optional, but recommended)
  2. For Breading, add flour and all spices to mixing bowl, combine well
  3. Pour breading into gallon size ziploc bag
  4. Add chicken pieces to ziploc bag, seal, and shake bag to coat all chicken
  5. Set chicken aside for at least 10 minutes
  6. Preheat frying pan to medium heat with about 1 cm deep of avocado oil or any vegetable oil (about 3/4 cup)
  7. Gently shake off any excess flour off of chicken
  8. Fry 1 side of the the chicken for 10 minutes
  9. Flip over and fry other side of chicken for 10 minutes
  10. Prop up chicken thighs on their sides for 5 minutes, and fry each possible side that can stand
  11. Place finished chicken on a plate with paper towel to soak up the grease
